Eating traditional Khmer food...

Over the food poisoning...time to try some more local food...I must say I was very skeptical, however, you will all be pleased to know, that I ate snake and crocodile.

We did the traditional Cambodian BBQ. This is how it goes...they put this huge pot in the middle of the table with this weird type of griller thing with water and spices around it. They chuck the veggies and noodles into the watery stuff and you cook the meat on the grill.

This is how your meat comes...they label it, beef, chicken, pork, crocodile and snake. The yellow stuff in the middle is egg, they chuck that into the water around the edge to cook the noodles with.

Middle = Beef
Front = Pork
Back = Chicken
Left = Croc
Right = Snake

SSSSSSSssssssssnnnnaaaaake.....

Kyle being uber chef!
See how the thing looks. Its a ceramic pot with coals in it and this silver cooked / griller thing in the middle.

This is what snake looks like when its cooking!
Veggies and noodles around the edge.

Very serious business this snake grilling...how do you know when a snake is cooked?

Well, to tell you the truth. It really doesn't taste bad at all. It is extremely rubbery. Like worse than the snails in Vietnam. You have to chew it for ages otherwise it will block your esophagus when you swallow! But it was pretty tasty. I would eat it again.

Same with croc, a little chewy, but tasty and very edible. I have had croc stew before, but plain croc is not bad at all.

See the labels in your meat...at least there weren't cat or dog labels!

See the hole in the table that the pot fits into? They give you these delish sauces...lemon and black pepper, tamarind sauce, a spicy one and a seafood sauce.

Traditional food out of the way...phew!
