Ubud Day Trip

We went on a day trip around the surrounds of Ubud - WOW! Truly an amazing place Bali is turning out to be!

One of the stops was an old temple! They make you dress - with a sarong. Suits him hey???

He's laughing at me because I keep taking pics of him in the sarong!

Fresh coconuts - delish!

This was a wood carving factory we went to. Everything is handcrafted and its a family business.

One of the wooden masks.

These baskets have cocks in them (roosters...) it is for the cock fighting. Apparently it makes them more aggressive when they are cooped up. Its so cruel, they put razor blades on their feet, and they fight until the one is dead. Then they make chicken soup out of them, because the meat is so tough, they are not good to roast!

Resting house for the rice workers.

Bridge over the river that waters the rice paddy's.

Water lilly!

Layers and layers of rice paddy's.

All the fields are owned and farmed by families. They grow 2 crops a year and it feeds them for 3-4 months at a time.

They are quite sensational.

This is a volcano on Bali - the last time it erupted was 1999.

Kyle and I

Then we went to an organic garden where they make the most divine natural coffee ad cocoa as well as gorgeous organic teas.

they make ginseng coffee...apparently its good for libido!

Luwak coffee..same same almost as the civet coffee in Vietnam.

Me grinding coffee...must take forever, its bloody hard work!

Drying mielies...no one knows what mielies are on this side of the world. Everything is corn!

This is snake fruit. See how the skin looks like snakes skin??? Its actually really tasty. It is nice and sweet with litchi type texture and a pip in the middle.

We did the tea and coffee sampling.

Everything is organic:
Bali coffee, coconut coffee, ginseng coffee, cocoa coffee, cocoa, vanilla coffee, lemongrass tea, rosella tea and ginger tea.

The shop where you can buy the stuff afterwards.

Bali Coffee - its really nice. Very strong. They drink it black with no sugar in small glasses almost like tot glasses.

We went to a holy spring / temple. People go here to bathe and to be blessed or something. You have to do it in the correct way you have to go to al the fountains.

Kyle and I in a rice paddy!

Me walking on the edge of the rice paddy. Its pretty high up!

Mwaaaaaaah x x x x

Beauteous Maximus.

Looking over the volcano.

 Here are the holy fountains.

People bathing. They have a clothes washing area as well. I managed to get a picture, however, I also managed to someones crown jewels in the process while they were washing their clothes in their birthday suit.

This is the holy spring. The water that feeds the fountain where the people bathe comes from here.

Looks divine hey! This poor dude has to clean all that algy.

The water is crystal crystal crystal clear.

They had some type of Hindu ceremony going on and worshipers were gere getting sprayed with holy water.

The main religion in Indonesia is Muslim. However in Bali, only 15% of the population is Muslim. 75% are Hindu, 5% Buddhist and 5% Christian. So this is a Hindu ceremony.

Me in new batik!

This is a temple!

Me walking through the temple.

Its HUGE! engraved in the mountain.

Me, smashing my face with a coconut!

Me walking up all the steps while I smash my face with a coconut!

Then, our guide took us to his house! HECTIC. His wife made us coffee and these divine rice biscuits covered in palm sugar.

He lives here with his mother, his wife, their 3 kids, his 2 brothers, their wives and their kids!

Every house has a shrine for worship and offerings.

He breeds pigs and sells them for extra money. He farms rice and cocoa and coffee. They make everything from scratch. Their kitchen is a wood fire and everything is communal.

These are baby pigs! They big ones weigh more than 150kg's - 150kg's of bacon!

The entrance to his house.
