Ubud - Monkey Forest

Monkey Forest is home to a number of things, temples, art galleries, beautiful statues, forest in the middle of a city and mostly home to millions of monkeys!

As we walked in, this dude was posing for us!

Isn't that just so sweet...it's pretty scary actually, monkeys really frighten me. I was lead to believe that monkeys are pretty dangerous...

Hundreds of little baba's everywhere.

Lights, camera, action...blue steel pose...

There was only one Orang Utang in the forest...

They are so clever, he just smashed that coconut into the ground until it cracked open.

These monkeys are Balinese Macaques.

They get fed mielies, sweet potatoes, oranges, bananas, coconuts and papaya.

This is me with a monkey on my head...yes, see the look of utter anguish in my face!

I was so scared. They scare me to death!

Hahahahahahaha, there were crowds of people around laughing!

I eased up a little after the second one jumped on me!

OK, maybe I didn't ease up that much!

Kyle wasn't phased! Birds of feather......

Huge similarities!

Heh heh heh!

Totally chilling and enjoying a banana. Peace out...

Lots of statues around the forest...these surround the Holy Monkey Temple.

in accordance with Bainese Hindu Philosophy, peace and liberty are obtainable only when we respect three harmonious relationships know as the Tri Hita Karana Doctrine:
1) The Gods blessed life and created nature and all of its contents.
2) Nature offers sustenance to support the needs and activities of human beings.
3)Human beings have an obligation to establish a traditional village structure, to build temples in which to worship, to hold various ceremonies, to make daily offerings, to preserve nature and to solve problems together.

Not only is the Sacred Monkey Forest an important component in the spiritual and daily lives of the village, but it also a site of several research and conservation programs.

Fast, fast, fast asleep!

Me at one of the statues!

Mummy and Baby...isn't this just beautiful....

God, it was so cute, I could have watched for hours.

Huge monitor lizards carved out of stone.

These statues look pretty scary!

Walking in the forest...

This is how close you could get these primates! Some of the bigger males weigh up to 10kg's.
