Dalat Day Trip - Part 2

Part 2: Rouo Gao and Civet Coffee Tasting
Rouo Gao is rice wine and Civet Coffee is the coffee the civets eat and poo out and people think its so amazing.

The wine distillery. They cook rice for about 2 hours and they put in a container for about 25 days.

This is what it looks like after 25 days. They then put it back into the big silver thing with the pointy top and distill it.

The alcohol goes up the pipe.

This is where they store it for 25 days.

This is the tap the distilled alcohol comes out of.

It goes up the pipe and through water to cool off.

Close up of the pipe.

Distilled rice wine - Voila...
They have 3 different types, 6% alcohol, 30% alcohol and 60% alcohol. Ya, pretty hectic...the 60% alcohol one they put snakes and lizards and stuff in it and they bury it in the soil for 1 year, the alcohol content is then at 45% and ready for drinking!

The 60% alcohol rice wine is highly flammable!

Now this is really sad...They keep civets in cages and feed them raw coffee beans.

Once digested, this is what comes out the other end. Its then roasted and and ground.

Close up of the Civet droppings! The coffee costs about $30 per 250g.

Poor things...they are so cute...they look sort of like cats crossed with a mongoose...

The famous civet coffee...its good, not as amazing as it is boasted to be. But it has a pretty unique taste...LOL

This is still the best...crushed ice, strong Vietnamese Moka coffee and condensed milk...SUPERB!

This is me tasting the 60% rice wine.....

This is me after the 60% alcohol Rice Wine....
