Vientiane Cycle Trip

We rented bikes for 10 000 Laos Kip which is the equivalent of R10 - way expensive! Anyway, we missioned around Vientiane for many hours in the blistering heat, but it was worth it!

First stop, Sisaket Museum and burial ground.

This is a grave yard and these are tombs.

Buddha's are situated all over the show and Monks roam around the temple.

Some of the Buddha's around the Temple.

The temple, there is always so much attention to detail on all the temples.

More Buddha's, they are everywhere, hundreds of them in rows!

We then cycled to The National Museum for Ancient Religious Artifacts

They have the most beautiful gardens.

Some ancient artifacts!

Stunning gardens!

Then we cycled on to the Fresh Food Market - it was absolutely massive, anything you can imagine is sold there. They also even have an entire textile market! However, those baguettes do look good!

Enough chillies? The food here is so hot - I ordered a spicy papaya salad that took all the enamel off my teeth as well as all the skin off my lips and inside of my mouth! Just jokes, but seriously they are not scared of chilli!

Ginger, just bowls and bowls of ginger.

This was absolutely disgusting - meat - every part of every animal all over the table. It smelt so disgusting that I had to go outside because i nearly had a vom. I was mock charging.

Nice fresh veg - what a pleash!

Fish???? At least it was cooked, well at least some of it!

This was one of the sadest things i've ever seen. Baby turtles in a bucket being sold to eat. There were ducks in cages and live chickens and live fish in 2 cm of water. There were buckets of live frogs and creatures everywhere. It was so horrendously cruel, we decided to leave after that. I just couldn't any more...

I haven't had meat since then....I'm a bit worried this is where the restaurants shop for their groceries and that just puts me off HUGE!

Vom Vom VOM - any meat with that amount of flies on it cannot be OK!

OK, onto nicer things. We trekked on and got a bit lost but eventually found the replica of the Arc de Triomphe. It was so beautiful and you can climb all the way to the top!

The roof of the Arc de Triomphe .

View from the top!

View from the other side...

Apparently a deadly Naga lives under this thing...Its right next door to the US embassy...they'll be first to go! Oh ya, a Naga is some eel like fish and they often put them coming out from behind Buddha as its sort of mythical!

Another temple...

Buddha

All the temples have guards as in monsters outside the gates and not all the temples are open for tourists because the monks are praying!

It is pretty amazing seeing the temples though, you can't believe the detail and beauty of everything.

Doors to a temple we couldn't get in to!
Look at these bikes, I mean, how awesome! Some seriously expensive road bike!

Monster protecting a temple!

Missioning along the Mekong to find a statue!

Here is the statue!

Me on the bike! I had a bell and a basket!

Me at the Sisaket Museum - Look at all the Buddha statues.

Kyle and I at the top of the Arc de Triomphe.

Day over - hot and bothered we went back to the hostel to enjoy some serious aircon!
